New Media Professional

Welcome to your new career

I've gone from 0-100mph over the past year in my understanding of social and conversational marketing and media. As well as participating. But I find the amount of information overwhelming. Blogs, podcasts, Twitter, DIGG, Facebook, RSS feeds, yadayadayada. Every week there's something new. Oh yeah, and there are even those ancient things called books. I could spend 24/7 reading, listening, watching it all. It becomes a compulsion, and a burden. I hardly have time for Second Life anymore!

What are your techniques, psychological and practical, for keeping up with all the buzz out there?

Sometimes I feel the same way. What I try to (when being obsessive) is to try to segment my different areas of focus to certain days of the week. I don't do it as a hard and fast rule, but sometimes it can be liberating to be able to not have to think of the answer to the question "Now What?". When I am in a grove, I am journaling a bit so that I don't lose the important stuff. But that doesn't always work.

Indeed it can be quite daunting...
